Pedaling Joy to the Triangle
Giving back to the community has always been one of Ashley Wilson’s guiding principles. After leaving teaching for a career in real estate, she was determined to continue to give back to local children and co-founded Triangle Spokes Group in 2007 with her friend, Jenn Nowalk.
Triangle Spokes Group is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that raises money to purchase brand-new bicycles and helmets to give away to need-worthy children in the Triangle each December. 100% of Triangle Spokes Group’s donations go towards the purchase of bikes and helmets. In 2015 Triangle Spokes Group gave away 615 bikes and helmets for a total donation of 3,765 since inception.
These bikes go to families with multiple children, so the gift of one bike has an exponential benefit as far as the number of children who are able to experience the sheer joy and freedom that comes from racing down a hill with the wind in their hair on their very own shiny bicycle. As co-founder, Wilson is involved in every aspect of the organization, including strategic planning, event execution, recruiting corporate sponsors and individual donors, grant writing, raising the group’s public profile and maintaining its long-term viability.
