NC Ranks High on Best States for Business and Careers

Forbes recently released their list of best states for business and careers this year, and North Carolina placed 2nd on the list.

North Carolina has experienced a lot of growth and development over the past few years. With Raleigh being named as one of the top places to live and work and Charlotte being one of the biggest banking cities it is no surprise that NC makes it to the top of the list.
North Carolina has improved its rankings over the years by improving from #4 in 2013, #3 in 2014 and #2 in 2015 – things are looking good for 2016. The top spot on the list this year goes to Utah which has been named the #1 state for business and careers fir the second year in a row. North Carolina is the only one to appear in the top five every year of the Best States study.
NC received many votes for attracting more new facilities and expansions in 2014 than any other state. Major companies, such as Novo Nordisk and Interactive Intelligence, have announced that they are planting their roots in NC giving another reason for it to rank high on the list. Both companies noted that the Research Triangle Park area was of high interest due to its wealth of technical talent and strong universities.

The list is based on an assessment of each states business costs, labor supply, regulatory environment, economic climate, growth prospects and quality of life. Business costs, which include labor, energy and taxes, are weighted more heavily than the other categories. This year’s list included several new criteria, including the number of millennials as a percent of population.
