People are camping out to claim a site for their home. Crazy or worth it?
What would you camp out overnight for? The new iPhone? Basketball tickets? What about a home site in a fast-growing suburb? There were only 83 sites available in Phase 2 of Prestwyck, a development in McKinney, Texas and dozens of people camped out to claim their chosen lot.
One woman had already picked out her corner lot so she camped out to make sure no one took it – even though she was 6 months pregnant. One man wanted a “premium lot” for his family that was moving across the country so he camped out to make sure he got it. Not only were the campers getting the home site of their choice but the first 10 also got $3,000 in free upgrades. Construction will start at the end of the year and move-in dates are scheduled for summer of 2016.
McKinney has been named one of the country’s fastest growing cities and so is its real estate market. Real estate agents say homes in the McKinney area “fly off the shelves” which isn’t surprising with people camping out for home sites! What does this mean for buyers and sellers nationwide? Location really does matter and for some people location alone is worth camping out for!
