Dilworth, one of Charlotte’s finest historic neighborhoods, was established in 1890 by Edward Dilworth Latta on 250 acres of land just southwest of Uptown Charlotte. The community was designed as Charlotte’s first street car suburb with cars running from Uptown through Dilworth and ending at Latta Park. Today, Dilworth is one of the hottest places to live in Charlotte and is known for its eclectic style and desirability. Sections along Tremont Street are deemed historic as they were apart of the Atherton Mill Village.

Today, housing choices range from condos, townhomes, craftman-style new construction to luxury estate homes. The homes in Dilworth are primarily bungalows and some larger, two-story Colonial Revival homes that line Dilworth Road East and West. East Boulevard divides the residential areas in the area and is lined with restaurants, offices and shops, many located in renovated homes. New developments such as Latta Pavilion offer office and retail space, condos, landscaped courtyards, and winding walkways.

Dilworth’s desirability may stem from its proximity to Uptown Charlotte, Latta Park, numerous dining and shopping options, and Freedom Park. Education in this neighborhood is excellent as well and is districted for Dilworth Elementary, Alexander Graham Middle, and Myers Park High. These schools are ranked among the highest in the state for EOG and EOC test scores, internet access, advanced course curriculum, licensed teachers, and yearly progress.
